Rome also hosts a number of open-air markets, the more colorful and picturesque ones
being:
Situated in the heart of the old city, in Piazza Campo de' Fiori,
it is open from Monday to Saturday to 7.00 to 13.30. Every morning it fills up with
various stalls selling fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, poultry, dried fruit and legumes and
fresh flowers. The excellent gastronomical and bread shops around the piazza completes the
range of products available.
- Porta Portese, Via Portuense e Via Ippolito Nievo
Open on Sundays from 6.30 to 14.00, here you can find everything
from shoes, dresses, bags, suitcases, camping equipment, bed linen, towels, pots and pans,
kitchen utensils, plants, pets, car accessories, cassetes and CDs and old LPs.
Is situated near the Lion A subway stop Flaminia, and it open on
Sunday from 10.00 to 18.00. It is a very unusual market where private vendors sell clothes
and other various items. With time it has become a well attended "sitting room"
where members of roman "society" love to meet up and snap up bargains. |
