Charming
apartament in Via
Monserrato
for your accomodation in Rome, which is
next to Campo Dè Fiori and the well
known Piazza Farnese. Situated on one of the ancient streets of
Rome, famous for it's numerous antiquary shops, once part of the
via "recta papalis", which led from the Lateran
to St. Peter. The street is lined with 15th and 16th-century
houses and small workshops. The present name derives from the
Church dedicated to the Holly Mother of God of the Spanish
Sanctuary of Monserrat, 60 km away from Barcellona. The church was
built in 1518, but it has ancient origins. In 1354 a spanish
noblewoman, Jacoba Ferrandes, bought a house on the via Arenula
where she set up a small hostel for her fellow-countryman,
dedicated to S. Niccolò de' Catalani; the hostel's chapel
has become the S.Niccolò a Corte Savella church, which was
demolished to leave its place for the present S.Maria di
Monserrato. Piazza Navona, the Pantheon, Trastevere and the Vatican are all just a pleasant walk
away.
